Hi! I'm Kexiang (KX) Shuai, a programmer experienced in building XR applications for Quest and visionOS using Unity with additional front-end web development, supported by a track record of publications at top HCI conferences.

I am currently pursuing a Master of Entertainment Technology at Carnegie Mellon University, and wish to explore new areas such as tool development & technical art. I am passionate about creating impactful, user-centric experiences in highly collaborative environments.

  1. Digital Touch

    Interaction Designer & Programmer July 2025 – Aug 2025

    Architected and developed a multi-user colocation system for visionOS. Enable users to seamlessly invite others into a shared virtual space for collaborative interaction. Authored a suite of custom visual effects with Unity's VFX Graph, elevating the visual appeal and interactive feedbacks.

    Interaction Designer & Programmer Mar 2025 – Jun 2025

    Led the development of a multiplayer networked XR interaction prototype for VR museums, innovatively enabling visitors to interact and provide real-time feedback using gaze and emojis. Research findings have been submitted to IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG).

  3. Extensible Asymmetric Interaction System – Capstone project

    System Designer, Programmer Aug 2024 – Jun 2025

    Independently developed an asymmetric interaction system that enables users on different devices (VR, PC, and Mobile) to communicate and collaborate within one virtual environment. Designed and implemented a network platform based on NetCode, allowing simultaneous connectivity from devices across multiple platforms (VR, PC, Android). Published a template Unity project, including pre-configured Unity assets, detailed technical documentation, and beginner-friendly guides.

  4. Enhancing Small/Moving Target Selection in VR using SSVEP-based BCI

    VR Developer & MATLAB Developer Nov 2024 - Present

    Assisted in research to evaluate whether an SSVEP-based BCI improves the accuracy of selecting small targets in VR environments when combined with eye-tracking. Applied Meta's eye-tracking toolkit in combination with the real-time BCI signal toolkit in MATLAB to create a testing prototype in Meta Quest Pro.

  5. Intelligent Medical Orthopedic Splint

    Led the development of a smart orthopedic splint with IoT sensors to aid in post-fracture rehabilitation, recommended for the China National University Students' Opt-Sci-Tech Competition. Developed IoT modules and implemented 12-page front-end interfaces for the mobile application.

    Collaborated with Institute of Semiconductors CAS and Soochow University's Nano Institute. VR Developer & MATLAB Developer Oct 2023 - Jan 2024

    Developed a novel electronic tattoo for enhanced VR control through precise electrooculogram (EOG) signal integration, accepted by ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces journal. Built a Unity-based VR prototype and facilitated real-time BCI signal transmission using Socket programming and MATLAB for EOG signal processing.

  7. AR Computer Assembly Tutorial

    Project Lead & Interaction Designer & Programmer Jun 2023 - Aug 2023

    Spearheaded the development of an AR mobile application that assists layman in assembling a personal computer independently, won a third prize in the China Virtual Reality Competition (CCVR2023). Designed the software architecture and implemented the core mechanics of the application.

  8. Manipulating and Observing Virtual Objects in VR

    Sole Author & Developer Aug 2022 - Jun 2023

    Independently completed the research evaluating the VR observation in virtual worlds from multiple dimensions, ranked 6/140 in XJTLU's Summer Undergraduate Research Project Competition, and published in the CEII2023. Implemented two classic VR interaction methods and built a virtual museum environment for testing.

  9. AR Exploration Game for Museums and Cultural Heritage

    Assisted in designing an educational AR mobile game to enhance the visitor experience in museums and cultural heritage sites, published in the CHI 2023 & JOCCH. Contributed to the design of the game's core mechanics and completed 70% of the code development ensuring robust functionality.
